"High-defense," as the name suggests, is like adding a very high defense shield on the internet, mainly referring to DDoS protection capabilities in the IDC field. High-defense servers mainly offer additional defense services compared to regular servers. They usually deploy specialized hardware firewall devices and traffic scrubbing equipment at the IDC exit to defend against common attacks like CC attacks, DDOS, and SYN attacks. In simple terms, they help websites fend off service denial attacks and regularly scan existing network nodes to identify potential security vulnerabilities. This type of server, including WAF (Web Application Firewall) defense, can be defined as a high-defense server.
How Does a High-Defense CDN Defend Against Network Attacks?
A high-defense CDN is a content delivery network with defense capabilities, built on top of the network. It employs intelligent redundancy mechanisms between widely distributed CDN nodes to defend against network attacks. Users can access the required content nearby without directly accessing the website's origin server. By using a high-defense CDN, not only can different regions' network access speeds be improved, but it can also significantly reduce the pressure on servers caused by excessive concurrency. Additionally, it can hide the website's origin IP, preventing network attackers from knowing the real website IP information and thus being unable to launch network attacks. The defense mechanism of CDN high-defense is not a single defense strategy; it deploys defense strategies tailored to different attack types. Essentially, it sets up multiple high-defense distribution nodes so that if one CDN node is attacked, all nodes collectively bear the load. An attack on a single node does not render the website inaccessible. This analogy can be likened to calling on a group of strong brothers to stand guard along the opponent's approach – knocking down one adversary will still leave several others waiting. For effective DDoS protection, a high-defense CDN requires at least 10 or more CDN nodes, with each node possessing DDoS protection capabilities ranging from 20 to 100 Gbps.
